Disavowed is thirteen tracks of dense and complex electro breaks, glitched and bass heavy, but always with a driving insistant pulse with fragments of haunted melody strung around its core.
Pulling in threads of 80's electro analog warmth, and outboard production techniques, but with contemporary intensity, and refusing to be limited by genre bourndaries, this isn't music that is trying to "emulate" anything, but push forward, instead of cashing in on empty nostalgia.
"Jumping At Shadows" sets the tone, growling bass, and bubbling liquidity, analog synths pushed through guitar pedals, overdriven to breaking point. Granular textures, fractured percussion, all anchored by driving breaks and thumping kicks.
"Keep Moving On" is equal parts folorn vocoder and classic electro influence, and filthy drum and bass inspired resonant bass, industrial effects, and tumbling insistant beats.
"Leading Questions" is spacious and atmospheric, evocative, without being pandering. Electro re-shaped, modernised, refocused, re-enforced. Stronger, leaner, darker, sleeker.
Elsewhere "Asleep At The Wheel" diverts into more melodic territory, mixing guitars and strings, with the pervasive currents of sub bass, and grinding percussive violence, before finally "Run Like Hell" leaves the building on fire, turning from bassy breakbeat to all out assault by it's conclusion.
With Exsil we only have the artist as a reference point, and the artist encourages all listeners to strive to release themselves from the judgements and suppositions that we all make on others based on their marks of identity.
If "Exsil" means anything, it is "outsider". Standing on the fringes, and not looking in, but looking out.
